I'm Doing the Blog now

As Jason is not going to do the blog I am going to do my best to keep it up. As I am very tired each night it is not going to be as detailed but I hope it does the job. Thanks for hanging in there. I will post the blog on this page scroll down to read my first entry.

I'm Doing the Blog now: 25-26/11/2008

Jason said that he is not going to post his blog any more so I feel as though I owe it to you all to keep you informed.

Our cousin Joel is here it Africa. He arrived on Saturday. It has been a breath of fresh air having him here. He understands us so well, given that we grew up together. We have had some good days at work together and it has really pushed things along having three people working on frames. Robbie and I went from getting one bay every two days, to finishing the frames on a bay and every day. This is a marked improvement. It really brings a new found motivation to the project. Not to mention the fact that he is a great man to work with. Very chilled and calm. I love that he is here with us. It worked out perfect that the hippy chippies left and he arrived.

We have finished the framing on nearly half the Accommodation building and are about to work with nick and his local crew to finish of the trusses for the first half.

Today was Darren’s Birthday and Mount Meru took of its cloudy jacket and was looking its majestic best. In the afternoon after a hard days work the FWS team put together a great memorial service. It was a very fitting service where we all laid flowers around his flame tree. Robbie, Joel and I place a candle around the tree then Mohammad, Shona and I had a talk to everyone and thanked them for their efforts and passion with the build. I told the men that I hoped that through their experience of building with Darren and I they have seen that they are all very talented and have the ability to achieve anything they set their minds to.

The Building team all had a good day and advanced both buildings with the managers building only needing two more trusses. The Accommodation building is also advancing well we only have a few hours of work left in the morning.

Jason is off having some time out and renewing his visa. I hope the break helps him out. It will be good for all of us to have a break from each other. We have been living working and sleeping on top of each other for nearly three months now.

I will do my best to update the blog whenever I can. I will add some pics to this entry when I get a chance.

Fund Raiser Camden

Beardaship member, Robbie Stratti, along with the managers of the Merino Tavern Bistro: Kate, Lorrie and son Josh (Robbie's life long mate) organized a fund raiser that was held at the Merino Tavern last night 25-08-08 at 6:00pm. It was attended by the Mayor of Camden,
Chris Patterson, along with 4 other council members; representatives of the local business community and people from the surrounding Macarthur district from all walks of life. The Food Water Shelter Girls were there to help out and give their support. Beards For Africa would like to thank everyone for their support and generosity. The evening was a massive success. The money raised will go a long way to helping our members to reach their goals in Africa. Special thanks to those business and people that donated the gifts and prizes that were raffled off on the night. There were some brilliant prizes that put a lot of smiles on peoples faces.

Our Blog is set up so we can let all of our family, friends, supporters and fans know what we are up to in Africa. Our team is going to work on a building project to finish Kesho Leo Children's Village that Darren Stratti, brother and father of our founding members, had spent 18 months of his life building before his life ended in a robbery at the volunteer village. We are going to do this in honour of Darren to celebrate the inspirational man that he was. Rest in Peace Brother.
